Bishop (U. of Texas at Austin) cites the Yasakawa Electric Company in defining mechatronics as "technologies and developed products [that incorporate] more and more intimately and organically into mechanisms, making it impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins." His text contains 21 articles introducing the field in relation to its key elements of physical systems modeling, sensors and actuators, signals and systems, computers and logic systems, and software and data acquisition. The material in this text appear in a more complete form in The Mechatronics Handbook, co-published by CRC Press and The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society

Title: Mechatronics: Dynamics of Electromechanical and Piezoelectric Systems

(Solid Mechanics and Its Applications)

Author: A. Preumont

Publisher: Springer (September 25, 2006)

Publication Date: 2006-09-25

Number Of Pages: 207

This volume treats Lagrange equations for electromechanical systems, including piezoelectric transducers and selected applications. It is essentially an extension to piezoelectric systems of the work by Crandall et al.:"Dynamics of Mechanical and Electromechanical Systems", McGraw-Hill, published in 1968. The first three chapters contain classical material based on this and other well-known standard texts in the field, such as Methods of Analytical Dynamics by L. Meirovitch, McGraw-Hill, 1970. Some applications are new (e.g. geophone). Chapters 4 to 6 consist of new material which has not been published in a monograph before. They deal with piezoelectric systems in a unified way, starting from a Lagrangian approach. This book will appeal to the research community and graduate students at the MSc and PhD level

Mechatronics: Principles and Applications

Mechatronics is a core subject for engineers, combining elements of mechanical and electronic engineering into the development of computer-controlled mechanical devices such as DVD players or anti-lock braking systems. This book is the most comprehensive text available for both mechanical and electrical engineering students and will enable them to engage fully with all stages of mechatronic system design. It offers broader and more integrated coverage than other books in the field with practical examples, case studies and exercises throughout and an Instructor’s Manual. A further key feature of the book is its integrated coverage of programming the PIC microcontroller, and the use of MATLAB and Simulink programming and modelling, along with code files for downloading from the accompanying website.

Integrated coverage of PIC microcontroller programming, MATLAB and Simulink modelling
Fully developed student exercises, detailed practical examples

Mechatronics is the synergistic combination of precision engineering, electronics, photonics and IT engineering. The main research task for mechatronics is development and control of advanced hybrid systems covering all these fields and supported by interdisciplinary studies.
This book presents recent state of advances in mechatronics presented on the 7th International Conference Mechatronics 2007, hosted at the Faculty of Mechatronics, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland. The chosen topics of the conference included: Nanotechnology, Automatic Control and Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Design Manufacturing and Testing of MEMS, Metrology, Photonics, Mechatronic Products. The selected papers give an overview of the state-of-the-art and present new research results and prospects of the future development in this interdisciplinary field of mechatronic systems. This book will provide up-to-date and useful knowledge for researchers and engineers involved in mechatronics and related fields.Pass; gigapedia.org
